of clouds
steals the mountains
that lift me up

where deer slept in grass
imprints
last night’s dream

harvest
‘round the clock
—dust and diesel

first light—
checking the bedside clock
with half closed eyes
I envy those who can sing
so well before breakfast

saltwater morning
alone with my thoughts
and the cry of gulls

my words adrift
on autumn’s wind
seaside eulogy

another year passes…
thinking he can see
right through me
