she steps like a waterbird
cautiously
optimistic of finding
words to keep her afloat

leaves of waterlilies
make a puzzle
already solved
yet i ponder how to find
space for all my wishes

as a child
she hugged wildflowers
migration
changed their names
still she searches, whenever

i splash
along the water’s edge
entranced
by the kiss of ripples
the veil of lace

far off
a golden egg
nestles
in the hope
of cracking tomorrow

how oppressive
a grey day appears
until
a chance wind shift
a different truth

showing
your great age
while welcoming
the wanderers
where will you take me
