ocean
on the beach
where kids played
yesterday

soft steps
fading into the night
sunset shadows

prairie sky
gray plateaus
promise snow

our branches
have grown together
in old age…
new leaves shimmer
on the ancient cypress

landscape—
sharing the colorful light
with a butterfly

i splash
along the water’s edge
entranced
by the kiss of ripples
the veil of lace
